Complaints
The University of Sunderland is committed to full compliance with the Freedom of Information Act 2000. This complaints procedure has been drawn up in line with the Lord Chancellor's Code of Practice on the Discharge of Public Authorities' Functions under Part 1 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
Complaints procedure
If you are dissatisfied with the service you have received in relation to a request for information, please contact the University's Governance and Records Management Officer to discuss the matter informally. We would hope to resolve most queries quickly without the necessity for a formal complaint to be made.
If you wish to make a formal complaint, please set out the nature of your complaint in writing and address it to:

An initial response will be made within five working days of receipt of a complaint. A full investigation and any decision will be made within 20 days from receipt. If it is not possible to respond within this timescale, the complainant will be notified of the revised timescale.
If the complaint is upheld, you will be informed what action is to be taken. If the complaint is not upheld you will be given reasons for the decision.
The complaint will be investigated by or on behalf of the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Resources) who will provide a response within the above timescales.

If you are not satisfied with our response to a complaint, you have the right to apply to the Information Commissioner's Office for a decision under section 50 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (2) in these circumstances by contacting:
