Descriptions: Sunderland Software City
The University is central to the success of Sunderland Software City, which is expected to attract millions of pounds of investment, employ thousands of people and generate considerable wealth for the city.
The University is combining with business and the public sector to create and deliver an exciting vision for Sunderland to be home to a vibrant software industry. Key regional partners include Leighton Group, Sunderland City Council and One North East.
The University is aligning its academic programmes so that its graduates will not only have the skills in software development and IT, which the new software industry in Sunderland will need, but will also be helped and encouraged to become the new software entrepreneurs.
The University will play a key role in developing and sharing knowledge with the software companies, enhancing high level skills and the knowledge base, and adding real value to the industry.
Sunderland Software City aims to initiate new approaches to integrating business and universities and act as a catalyst for the growth of new and existing businesses.
Although Sunderland is the base the project has an economic and regenerative impact throughout the region.
