The University of Sunderland has been working with hard to reach groups for a number of years now, offering sport and physical activity as a tool for people who struggle with the many challenges life can bring.
Sport can be extremely beneficial and working alongside a number of support and care agencies in Sunderland we run tailored sports programmes, events and training.
Our hard to reach sessions use sport as an aid to support the rehabilitation of our participants who suffer from issues surrounding substance misuse, homelessness and reoffending, we also work with those currently on probation.
Our weekly sessions are led by our experienced coaches and are supported by a team of student volunteers who give up their time as part of our Sport Career Academy. The volunteers operate a buddy system with all new participants, helping them to overcome the many barriers associated with hard to reach groups.
