About Elite Athlete Support Scheme

The University is continuing its development of services that it can offer to elite athletes during their time at the university. As part of this commitment, the Institute of Sport has implemented and grown the Elite Athlete Support Scheme to assist athletes performing at an advanced level whilst studying at University.
The scheme is open to any student studying on an official University of Sunderland course (including those who are enrolled on a University course at a local college).
Past scheme members have included everyone from Olympic rowers, world champion martial artists, commonwealth gymnasts, county cricket players, European athletic competitors, and six nations rugby champions. The university's CitySpace building was one of the region's 2012 Olympic training camp venues, this allowed current and potential world performers to meet and train together.
