Watch Sport

Sport in the North East is followed by a committed crowd of supporters and fans, no matter the team level. The entire region is passionate about sport - you may have noticed - and Sunderland is at the heart of it. With martin O'Neil and Ellis Short running Sunderland's largest entertainment arena, the Stadium of Light, it's no surprise. With such a well connected region why not take in an international cricket match in Durham, ice hockey in Newcastle, or a premier league football match at the Stadium of Light. You can also see international athletics, pro and semi pro Rugby Union, Rugby League, Super League Netball, European Tennis.....the list goes on and on,  and all this is right on your doorstep.

As well as watching all of the above sports and teams you can also support the many University teams who compete every week in the BUCS competition.

Facilities

The facilities in the area are among the best in the UK. Sunderland is home to a new multi million pound Aquatic Centre (50m Olympic Pool), an LTA tennis development facility, an athletics track, a ski slope, one of Europe's highest indoor climbing walls and an award winning Marine Activities and Adventure Sports Centre.  In addition to this the University has recently invested £12m into a new Sport & Social facility on the City Campus, for further information on the CitySpace building and other facilities in the area visit the facilities @ sunderland section.
