About

This procedure provides a framework for dealing with cases of performance below an acceptable level; prolonged or persistent absence from work due to sickness; or where a medical condition impacts on an individual’s ability to carry out their role to a satisfactory level. The purpose is to help secure the required improvements in a fair, supportive and consistent way when employees are not able to perform their full range of duties to the standard expected by the University.

Where a satisfactory improvement does not take place, this procedure is intended to provide a fair and effective means of considering alternative options including investigating redeployment to a more appropriate position, reasonable adjustments to the role, or, where this is not practicable, to carry out a fair dismissal.

Cases that involve significant or serious absence or ill health may be referred to this procedure from the University’s Sickness Absence Management Policy, and will commence from Stage 3 of this procedure.
