The University is committed to ensuring all roles are graded correctly, in line with HERA (Higher Education Role Analysis) procedures and equal pay principles.

It is recognised that new roles will be required within the University and that roles may change significantly over time, often resulting from re-organisation or changes within individual teams, departments, Schools or Services.

This policy sets out the process that the University will follow when considering;

  1. Attaching a grade to a newly created post
  2. Reviewing the current grade of an established post, where it is believed that the duties and responsibilities attached to the role have significantly changed.

The procedure is only applicable following the expiry of the Assimilation Review Process designed to help manage the outcomes of the University of Sunderland Job Evaluation exercise and assimilation to the New National Single Pay Spine, following implementation of the National Framework Agreement.
