
Academic Dean of Faculty (Computer Science)
The University of Sunderland is looking for an exceptional candidate to undertake the role of Academic Dean, leading the Faculty of Computer Science. The Academic Dean is responsible for the leadership and management of the Faculty in support of the learning and research agendas and ensuring the Faculty makes an active contribution to the delivery of the University’s new Strategic Plan 2016 - 2021.
As one of six University Academic Deans the successful will provide strategic academic and research leadership to an ambitious Faculty, which seeks to build on its reputation for preparing a diverse student community for the challenges of the global business environment.
A key purpose of the Academic Dean is to engender an exciting, dynamic and relevant scholarly environment that encourages curiosity and creativity amongst staff and students and creates reputable knowledge hubs in the Faculty's subject specialisms. The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to deliver this in line with the University's Vision, Strategic Ambitions and Objectives and related academic plans.
The successful candidate will hold a relevant Postgraduate (or higher) qualification or equivalent professional qualification as well as active membership of a relevant professional body and either a higher education teaching qualification or membership of the Higher Education Academy.

With a substantial record of senior level leadership in a large/complex organisation, the successful candidate will also have significant experience of people and financial resource management. We are looking for an individual who can demonstrate good knowledge and understanding of the national and international higher education environment and the major influences on institutional success.
We are looking for an individual who holds a high personal academic and/or professional standing in an area relevant to the Faculty and who displays strong leadership and management skills, motivating others to achieve their potential.
