The University of Sunderland: Centre for Graduate Prospects recognises the significant role employers can play in supporting the development of student and graduate employability. 

We can help employers to gain access to students and graduates and support their recruitment needs through advertising opportunities, organising events and advising employers on recruitment issues.

Whether you are a local, national or international employer, we will work with you to promote your organisation and its opportunities to our tomorrow-making students and graduates.

We are perfectly positioned to help your business reach its goals and advise you on all the different ways you can engage with our students on-campus.

Services we offer to employers

Vacancy Advertising

The University of Sunderland: Centre for Graduate Prospects team can help your organisation target and recruit from the University’s current students and recent graduates. Vacancies are advertised to over 10,000 students and graduates through a network of contacts and a variety of media such as our online vacancy service, email alerts and extensive social media. We advertise for various types of vacancies including:

  • Graduate vacancies
  • Part-time jobs
  • Vacation work
  • Voluntary opportunities (Charities, CiC’s, Not for Profit)
  • Placements
  • Internships
  • Short term paid projects

We provide you with a simple and free way to advertise your opportunities online to our students and graduates:

  • You can add, edit, re-advertise and remove vacancies 24/7
  • You can create your own employer profile and include your company logo

Profile Raising activity and Facilities

We can offer your organisation a wide range of options to raise the profile of your organisation with our students. This is an excellent way to ensure students are aware of your organisation when it comes to their graduate job search. Activities can include:

  • Recruitment Fairs
  • Employer on Campus presentations or pop ups
  • Career Discovery
  • Participation in Module based sessions
  • Participation in our Professional Insight Scheme and Professional Award Assessment

We can also offer facilities and administrative support for selection interviews, aptitude testing and presentations on campus. We will be pleased to discuss your requirements and provide you with further details.

When are we open?

During term time our opening hours are:
Monday – Thursday, 9am – 6pm
Friday, 9am – 5pm

During vacation periods our opening hours are:
Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm

What we ask of employers

  • Provide us with clear and accurate information about your organisation, your requirements and your contact details
  • Supply as much information as possible about your vacancies to enable us to provide the best possible service to our students/graduates
  • Provide adequate notice for vacancies and events and inform us in good time of any changes or cancellations
  • Observe the appropriate University of Sunderland: Centre for Graduate Prospects Service Code of Practice(s) in relation to recruitment (available on request)
  • Comply with all legislative frameworks relating to recruitment
  • Provide us with constructive feedback on the effectiveness of our service and how we might seek to improve it – we welcome both formal and informal feedback

In relation to Employer events

  • The University will make every effort to promote events but cannot guarantee student attendance
  • Organisations visiting any of the University of Sunderland Campuses are not permitted to canvas students or Graduates, distribute leaflets or display materials outside of the designated delivery area
  • No financial, or other, liability will be accepted by the University if the booking is cancelled for any reason
  • Whilst on University premises or while engaging with students virtually, organisation representatives are required to abide by University policies which can be found at https://www.sunderland.ac.uk/externalspeakers/

Feedback

We’re always looking for ways to improve our service, so please do get in touch if you have any feedback. 

In addition to this, user feedback questionnaires covering different aspects of our service may be sent to you. Please help us improve what we do by telling us what you think.

We continually monitor and improve our services and procedures by acting on positive and negative feedback, and through our own observations and discussions. We actively respond to issues raised within the limits of our staffing and financial resources.

An annual evaluation report informs our annual service review and planning process. A copy of the report can be made available on request.

Feedback can be given anonymously if you prefer - however if you require a response we would need your contact details.

Vacancy Advertising Policy

University of Sunderland: Centre for Graduate Prospects aims to work closely with Employers to support their recruitment needs. There is no cost to advertise your opportunities to our students and graduates.

To ensure that our students and graduates can make informed decisions about their job search we require organisations to provide:

  • A clear description of your organisation
  • Full contact details; Include business address, business email, website, and landline contact number.
  • Job title and clear description of the role and duties
  • Skills, experience and qualifications required
  • Details on how to apply
  • Where to find further information about the organisation or the role
  • Renumeration details (must provide and must be specific)
  • Closing date – if not provided we will assume a date one month from submission

 

  • We recommend working hours of 16-20 for part time roles during term time
  • By publishing a vacancy, you agree that you hold valid Employers Liability and Public Liability insurance and a current Health and Safety Policy
  • You must ensure that all UK based opportunities must be paid at or above the National Minimum Wage, further information on this can be found here https://www.gov.uk/national-minimum-wage-rates
  • We would also encourage all employers advertising with the University of Sunderland to consider offering the National Living Wage

We reserve the right to edit adverts for the purpose of brevity and clarity. We may contact organisations whose vacancies, we feel are constructed as discriminatory, and work with them, where possible, to rectify this.

We reserve the right to not advertise or withdraw vacancies which, in our opinion, are unsuitable or not in the best interests of our students or graduates, in particular adverts which:

  • Have misleading or incomplete or inaccurate job descriptions
  • Have missing or incomplete company information
  • Do not meet the National Minimum Wage
  • Require the jobseeker to be self-employed without the guarantee of National Minimum Wage
  • Are partnership or equity only opportunities
  • Are advertised by agencies who do not give details of who they are recruiting for
  • Involve pyramid-selling are commission based or pay ‘in kind’ rather than being salaried
  • Require an up-front payment from the job seeker of any kind
  • Discriminate against candidates and don’t meet UK employment equal opportunities legislation https://www.gov.uk/guidance/equality-act-2010-guidance
  • Promote or endorse illegal activity
  • Are connected to the adult/sex industries
  • Roles which require students to work in door-to-door sales or similar
  • Courses or events provided by commercial or competing training providers
  • Any vacancy that the University of Sunderland deems inappropriate

For vacancies that require students or graduates to work from their own home, it is the responsibility of the employer to have a Home Working Policy which adheres to the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 https://www.hse.gov.uk/legislation/hswa.htm
