The University’s Student Support Fund Team administers the Discretionary University Hardship Fund (UHF) for ‘Home’ students (who satisfy the residency criteria to receive student support for living costs from Student Finance Gov.UK) who are experiencing financial difficulties.  Eligible undergraduate and postgraduate students studying either full-time or part-time can apply.  Standard applications are means tested and if successful awards are paid as a non-repayable grant into a student’s bank account as registered on our University system.

The Student Support Fund Team can also arrange an Emergency Loan at the beginning of a student’s academic year. Students must be currently registered and be experiencing a delay in receiving their first instalment of student funding from Student Finance.   These loans are designed to help with day-to-day basic living costs and travel to University.  Repayment of loans must be made on receipt of their first instalment of Student Finance Maintenance Loan.  To find out more, visit our website: University Hardship Fund | The University of Sunderland.

and Emergency Loan FAQ’s page: Emergency Loans | The University of Sunderland.
