Campus bus and travel

Home / Student life / Campus bus and travel

There are lots of ways to travel to our campuses…

The University is committed to reducing its impact on the environment and this includes where possible reducing the number of vehicles being brought onto the university campus on a daily basis. Not only does this help to reduce our carbon emissions but this also promotes healthy living too.

Our aim is to ensure our campuses are well connected to active and sustainable modes of transport and students are supported to make the must sustainable travel choices. Our Travel Plan for 2023 to 2028, outlines a range of measures to ensure our staff and students can travel in the most sustainable way.

Walk it!

All University campuses and student accommodation sites are within easy walking distances of each other.

By bike

One of the first things you need to do when cycling to/from campus is plan your route. You may wish to try it out in your free time to check how long it takes and ensure you are familiar with the route and check if there are any down or uphill sections. Komoot is a great online resource to navigate journeys by bicycle or on foot (select bike touring as your sport for off-road cycle routes).

There is safe and secure cycle storage and shower facilities on campus. Find out more in the link below:

Campus bus services

Sunderland Connect Bus (free to students with a valid University ID) – This is a public service which travels between the two University campuses and City wide at a 15minute frequency.

Campus Circular – The University operates a free mini-bus service for staff and students moving between the University’s student accommodation and two campuses.

Park and ride

Students may use the Stadium of Light car park free of charge (except on match and event days). The Connect Bus service stops at the stadium and can be used to get to each campus. The car park is also within walking distance of both campuses.
