The student completes an AMR report and the AMR Student Form and sends this to GRS Assistant & their Director of Studies (DoS).
Once the AMR Student Form has been submitted the DoS then fills in the first column of the AMR Staff Form.
The GRS Assistant then sends a progress report, and the staff and student AMR forms, plus previous years reports/info to the assessor. If this is the student’s first AMR, instead of the previous year’s report, GRS will provide the Application for Approval of a Research Degree Programme document and the subgroup notes.
The assessor has the 1st part of the AMR Staff Form to complete prior to the review and the 2nd part during the review (This is only sent to GRS once completed). The 3rd part can be completed by the assessor either during or just after the review.
The assessor writes the decision on the AMR Staff Form and this is sent to the GRS Assistant. The GRS Assistant then sends the AMR Staff Form back to the student and supervisory team.
If further evaluation is needed a second review will be arranged by GRS, with a second assessor – although it is not always necessary for the student to attend a further review as the panel may only require an amended report without the need for a further review. If the student is asked to amend their report they would submit their amended report back to GRS and GRS would then send onto the assessor for re-consideration.
The assessor should then inform GRS if the student has met the requirements. GRS send the outcome of the amended report back to the supervisory team and the student.
Continuation on the programme is conditional on a satisfactory outcome from the monitoring review. The student may have a 2nd attempt at the review. If the student needs to have a reconvened meeting, then this would be noted on the AMR Staff Form (by assessor) and GRS would communicate this to the student and supervisor. If the student does not meet the requirements after the 2nd review they can be withdrawn.
